The Bite App is Sodexo's free mobile app for all Android & IOS devices. The app shows everything being served at each meal, making it easy for you to identify items that meet your specific needs. Bite provides the nutritional information and top 8 allergens within each item served. You can even rate the item, provide feedback as well as mark it as a favorite if you loved it, and Bite will let you know when it is on the menu again.

With the menu controls on the app, you can select to highlight dishes that contain certain allergens, or show dishes that are only vegetarian, vegan, or mindful. Please speak with a Supervisor or Manager if you need a demonstration of the mobile application or its features.

Your guide to dining with food allergies here at Pepperdine University

We take pride in serving you wholesome ingredients, preparing recipes accurately and providing nutritional analysis and ingredient statements through our online menus. From our general manager to our front-line servers, we work carefully to address food allergies, celiac disease, or other special dietary needs. We have created integrated tools and specialized programs to help you manage your unique nutritional needs. You may choose to use all or just a few to make planning meals and nutrition easy. Our on-site team is here to support you through your dining journey, all you need to do is ask!

" Thank you Rodney and all of you on this email.  Our student had an opportunity to meet with Chef James today and they talked about safe foods he can order in as well as some safe ways some other foods can be prepared.  They’re going to connect weekly to do a little menu planning for her and she’ll be doing a little food prep on her own to fill in and have back up meals.  I greatly appreciate everyone’s help on this.  I know it’ll be a work in progress but I can’t tell you how special this opportunity truly is and what a blessing this team is.  I know not all schools would accommodate allergy students in this way."

Gluten Free Dining

Our dining locations offer many gluten-free options to our students with Celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Many of the meals offered in our cafes are free from gluten-containing ingredients. Please do take note that our gluten-free options are prepared in a kitchen containing gluten ingredients, although we do take care to avoid cross-contamination. Waves Café, Nature's Edge, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, and the HAWC Store also offer pre-packaged gluten-free meals and snacks.

Dining Vegan and Vegetarian

There are many options across campus that cater to vegans and vegetarians. We have a dedicated vegan station at the Waves Cafe daily. We have vegan and vegetarian options at nearly every other station within the Waves Cafe. We offer a vegan crust and vegan cheese at the Oasis Pizzeria, a vegan taco at Taqueria, and a wide variety of options at our other venues across campus.

Mindful is Sodexo's health and wellness program that helps making healthy choices second nature! We are committed to creating wholesome environments for our customers. Central to this effort is providing healthy, nutritious foods. The result of this initiative is an approach that focuses on transparency of ingredients, delicious food, satisfying portions and clarity in message so that you can make mindful choices! 

Mindful offerings meet stringent nutritional criteria based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Each meal is limited in calories, has fewer than 30 percent of calories as fat, fewer than 10 percent of calories as saturated fat, and is restricted in sodium and cholesterol. Look for the Mindful icon to indulge in the healthy and delicious items offered at each meal.

Gluten FreeA variety of gluten-free items are available across campus, and we can accommodate customers with foods that are free from gluten-containing ingredients. Please note, all gluten free items are produced in a kitchen that also handles gluten-containing ingredients.

VegetarianMenu items with the vegetarian icon contain no meat, fish, or poultry, or any meat products such as soup base. Our vegetarian offerings meet the needs of lacto-ovo vegetarians and may include eggs and/or dairy products.

VeganVegan offerings contain no meat, fish, eggs, milk, or other animal-derived products such as honey. Pepperdine Dining Services offers a daily vegan entree in the Waves Cafe for lunch and dinner.

Hayden Thrasher, RD is available for student consultations on topics such as: 

  • Food allergies, celiac disease, diabetes, or other special dietary needs 
  • Eating healthy on campus 
  • Vegan and vegetarian nutrition 
  • Weight management 
  • Campus presentations 

Hayden has a passion for leading a healthy lifestyle and empowering people of all ages to reach their healthiest potential through food and nutrition. She works with students to encourage a healthy and holistic lifestyle. She also assists students on campus that have dietary restrictions, helping them become more comfortable in their new dining environment.
